STONE THE CROW

Interview with Marc (vocals)

Q>> Hello guys! Well, tell us how the reactions on "Reduce To The Max" are... Are they the same in Germany and in foreign countries?
A>> Actually, RTTM is just released in German speaking countries. The reactions were all in a positive way so that we're pleased with it.

Q>> Did the fact that you covered the song "People Are People" bring you more fans? Was it more like a sort of "marketing strategy" or did you do it just for fun? Explain how you came to covering exactly this song...
A>> We only started to cover "People Are People" because we wanted to have a special thing at our live shows. It was the idea of the record company to put it on the new record and to release it as single.

Q>> I was amazed when I heard your latest album because I think it's a veeery perfect blend of very modern and more "retro" styles... I guess all you grew up with New Wave and stuff, right?
A>> We´re all into different types of music. Electronic is just part of it. Especially Depeche Mode means a lot to me personally. Martin Gore has been writing great songs for twenty years now. But the music I listen to every day is much harder: Machinehead, Godsmack, Disturbed, Filter, Sevendust…

Q>> Never thought of adding another guy to the trio? (...why?)
A>> We´re checking out drummers at the moment because we want to write the next album as a band. RTTM was another process: we programmed the drums before we got into the studio. We showed our grooves to the drummers that played for us on the record and finally ended up with two influences of drumming on tape.

Q>> How does STC come up with new songs? By purely spontaneous inspiration, alcohol absorption, personal feelings showing up or...? Who's actually the main composer in the band?
A>> We all collect ideas for ourselves and record them on the computer. Then we show these ideas to the other members and get one step further before we take the basics into the practice room and start build up the songs. It's all about emotion. In our opinion songs have to touch a person just by melody and harmony. My lyrics are very personal because I think that I can touch the listener much more if I'm touched too.

Q>> There's a poll on your site and I saw that "Misunderstood" reaches the best score while "Crimson" isn't that much appreciated? Are you sometimes sad looking at what people like (or dislike) or do you just agree with their taste? I mean, you tried to do something a bit different than the average song with "Crimson" and people do not like it much... Isn't it disappointing?
A>> We don't care in this case! We all love our songs the same and if one song touches the people more than another it's ok. Every song expresses a certain feeling. Maybe the feeling of "Misunderstood" reaches more people than the feeling of "Crimson" does.

Q>> What is "Cages Of Memories" about? Looks like it has a pretty important lyrical meaning...
A>> It's about time and the fact that time heals many wounds but also about memories that can hurt throughout your entire life.

Q>> I heard you used a lot of those modern voice-effects on the new recording. Is it something you personally wanted to add to get more variation or was it the producer's idea?
A>> Because we produced the record ourselves almost all the effects we based ourselves on our own ideas only. We love to use all technical possibilities available to make every song special.

Q>> What are your plans now? Tour, tour and tour or maybe also writing new songs already?
A>> After we finished our winter tour in March we started to collect new material for the next album. Over the summer, we'll play at a lot of festivals before we will hit the studio again in fall.

Q>> The end. Feel free to add whatever you want...
A>> Check out our webpage ( http://www.stone-the-crow.de ) and anytime you get the chance to see us live - GO FOR IT!!!
