MOONLIGHT

Interview with Maja Konarska (vocals)

Q>> Hello boys'n'girls! I took a couple of weeks to get used to your new sound but I must say it's really great! Now, how do you explain the transition between "Yaishi" and "Candra"? Your line-up remained the same, so I guess everyone felt that it was time to take one step beyond, right?
A>> The album "Candra" cost all of us a lot of effort and nerves. But it was worth it. The final result is much more than we expected

Q>> I saw (and heard!) that you also switched from English to Polish lyrics on one song ("To See Yourself"). Is this something you'd like to do more in the future or was it just a one-time try?
A>> I usually sing in Polish but we wanted to have a Polish accent on the English version of the LP.

Q>> "Candra" is a very calm and intimate album. Did you feel a change when you got to record all those cool songs in the studio? How was the general mood?
A>> The album "Candra" became intimate and calm while we were recording it in the studio. The demo version was much more pompous.

Q>> How did your closest fans react to all these nearly sudden changes?
A>> Most of them were enthusiastic but there were also those who didn't like our new sound.

Q>> The Rock/Metal scene is now crammed with some kind of new hybrids (Katatonia, The Gathering etc...). Do you feel like you're part of this new scene or do you consider yourself as a more common band...
A>> This type of music has been played all over the world for many years and it isn't anything new. Although both we and those bands think in a similar way we do not feel limited to this category.

Q>> The song "Body Dialogue" has that killer chorus... What's the song about? It seems like there's some ambiguity in the lyrical content... Or maybe it's just an impression...
A>> The lyrics were written by Daniel Potasz but for me it is a song about interpersonal relationships based on physical contact.

Q>> Both Poland and the Czech Republic have that special feel in their music. Where does that come from do you think? Is it the way you live, the stuff you eat and drink? Why are you so damn good at creating great atmospheres?
A>> I believe this doesn't have anything to do with origins. I do not think that Poles or Czechs feel music in a different way than other people.

Q>> Is there any Enya fan in there?
A>> We are not her fans but her work is of great value for us all.

Q>> Who took care of the layout of the new CD? I think it fits perfectly with what one can hear on it... Did someone supervise the whole visual part or did you let the artwork-guy do his job alone?
A>> The person involved in the layout and design of "Candra" was Daniel Potasz in cooperation with a designer. We aren't satisfied with the results.

Q>> What are you going to do next? You released quite a big bunch of albums now... Haven't you been approached by a major label yet?
A>> In Spring 2004 we are planning to release our next new album. In November 2003 we will take part in the Dark Stars Festival 2.

Q>> This is where you get some extra space to add whatever you'd like to share with our readers...
A>> Buy our albums so we can record new ones.
