Interview with Titta Tani (vocals)
Q>>
Ciao ragazzi! Right now, I'm looking at your discography and press-sheet. It
seems that you guys needed some kind of a push like Scarlet will probably give
you. You released 4 full-albums already and I never heard of you. What a shame!
I guess your previous label did nothing promotionwise... How do you feel today
with a new album and a new label?
A>> Ciao a te!!! Ah ah it's a really a shame
you guess right, the
previous label did nothing for us. I think we could call this mmmmm let me think..."Shit
or no shit?? That is the problem". In Scarlet we found a great team of
professional people that believe in their work and in the work of DGM
Promotion goes very well and the media's response for the new album is huge
and incredible
"Thank you!!!!!!" to all of them by the way...
Q>> "Hidden
Place" sounds huge but also contains ten pieces of pure fucking Prog Metal
art! Can we claim it's your best album ever or would that be a cliché?
;-)
A>> Maybe this is the most variegated album that we've done; you could
find a catchy refrain in a very heavy song or vice versa, or some prog-ballad
and in all this music you'll find "pure fucking Prog Metal art" as
you so marvelously put it
yeah, very good
It is not a cliché;
we love this album and we hope that the crowd will love it too!!!!!!
Q>> I guess
the fact that you guys have been influenced by classic Prog Metal bands is a
secret for no-one. Now, it's also true that you don't actually sound like any
of these famous bands. It's like you found your own sound, right?
A>> YEAHHHHHHHH WE LOVE YOU!!!! You are the first one that did not mention
Dream Theater and co. We love this kind of music but we've made it, with all
our efforts, without thinking about this kind of bands and we've finally won
the prize
You can now hear DGM's own style!!!!!
Q>> Ever
regretted the old times when you were an instrumental band?
A>> No, nothing to regret. It is a classic step of every band to grow
up and show something new to the fans. It's like seeds that need the water to
grow and become trees; it's the same evolution... And we're the water!!!
Q>> Let's
talk credits... the recording was made by Giuseppe Orlando, the mastering was
done at the Mastring Room, the cover is signed by Lasse Hoile... you lucky bastards!!!
Haha!!! How did you get all that? Did Scarlet spontaneously offer you all those
things?
A>> Very spountaneously... Really, I told you
They heard our demo
of the new album and went crazy over it
They chose the cover art and told
us.."Do you like it??" yeah
"Do you want the Mastring Room,
what you think??" YEAHHHHHHHH... It's a pleasure to work with them and
it's been a pleasure to discover that the label works in this way
And
we'll work very hard not to disappoint both the label and the fans!!!!
Q>> I read
that "Wings Of Time" (1999) was particularly appreciated in Japan.
Are the Japanese still hot for your new releases?
A>> Yeah, we sold a lot of copies of our last two CDs, "Wings"
and "Dreamland" (I think 10.000). For an Italian band this is a very
good result; we even did an interview for Burnn!! And they gave us 80/100 for
"Dreamland"; our guitar player did an interview for the most famous
magazine in Japan called Young Guitar, and for the new album I know that expectations
are high. So we are very confident!!!!!
Q>> Tell
us something about the composition process of the new album. It's not the kind
of album you can write over a short period of time, so I'm pretty curious...
A>> I think the composition process has been the fastest process DGM ever
went through; after the arrival of Fabio Sanges (keys) and Andrea Arcangeli
(bass) we started to write the album in July 2002 and then recorded it
Owing to their great technique, both Fabio and Andrea gave us a lot of new ideas
for Diego's riffs and rehersal after rehersal we were able to lead the album
closer to completion
There's a lot of improvisation; some of the songs
were only finished during my vocal recording session and everytime we hear the
CD we get this warm feeling
Sounds just great
We love it!!
Q>> Are you
still on this year's Gods Of Metal bill? Do you feel confident about playing
there?
A>> YES we'll kick their asses!!!!!!! We're very confident to play there
and the bill is really great; Whitesnake, Queensrÿche,... It's an honor
for us. We'll thank Scarlet until next century for this chance ah ah ah ah
Q>> Do you
think the line-up is the right one this time? I hope it is...
A>> For sure
We're all close friends and professional people that
love this work and we'll fight with all our efforts to promote "Hidden
Place" the best way we possibly can
So stay tuned!!!
Q>> Any additional
info you'd like to share with us and our readers?
A>> Tomorrow, the 14th of May (maybe it's too late to tell you but who
cares) DGM will have an interview on DangerFM Radio in Belgium!!!! And stay
tuned to all the news about us on the website www.dgmsite.com. We also wanna
thank you, Rno, for this interview, we want to thank the staff of beyondwebzine.com
and all its readers
And don't forget to listen to "Hidden Place"!!!
