Interview with Nocturno Culto
Q>>
Hi guys, I just watched all the multimedia sections of your re-released albums
and now I feel stupid because it's like I can't find questions that you haven't
answered yet... Do you think you forgot to mention something in that video footage?
A>> Yeah, lots. If we were really nice, we could go on forever with micro
details! I see that you have thought out some questions, that's clever.
Q>> Were
the things you said (still on those same multimedia sections) all prewritten
or did you just - as I guess you did - talk about the souvenirs you had at the
very moment you were filmed?
A>> Non of it was prewritten. We take things as it is, we are no actors
by ANY means.
Q>> How do
you feel about being filmed? Isn't it something against the Darkthrone good
old "rules"? Even though they're fuckin' dark... And you did it yourselves,
right?
A>> We did all ourself, no one even saw or heard us filming. Well, it
just MIGHT be against all Darkthrone rules, but we have sold our soul to the
Devil, NOT the commerce plastic Black Metal. Hmm, Black Plastic....that's the
new genre created by many new bands!!!
Q>> I remember
N.C. talking about Death's "Scream Bloody Gore", which he said was
a very big influence during the creation of "Soulside Journey". Both
albums are now considered "cult" by many Metal maniacs all around
the globe. Do you think things would have been different for Dark Throne if
Chuck Shuldiner and his mates had not existed?
A>> No not really, the '80 brought us so fucken many genious bands, so
Death's Scream Bloody Gore was just one of MANY. But I have to admit, that album
is still one of my top 10 albums ever.
Q>> How are
you feeling when you think about all you did in the past? Any regret?
A>> No, no regrets whatsoever. Hehe, apart from some major cockups for
me personally, but I don't even regret them. Well, there is actually ONE thing
I regret with Darkthrone: we used too little time in the studio recording Total
Death, and we did side a in usual manner, and we waited two or three months
before recording side b. Not a very wise solution.
Q>> I was
amazed when I saw Peaceville had re-released all your albums... especially since
I love digipacks! I'll have to recycle my good old tapes now... Aren't you a
little nostalgic of the vinyl and tape years?
A>> Very nostalgic about it really, but the sad thing is that time will
never come back. technology of today is supreme and easy. But hey, NOTHING can
compare to vinyl....that's still the best even today.
Q>> Do you
think Moonfog is gonna do a similar action in a couple of years with all the
albums you released on their label?
A>> Don't know. They might after some more years.
Q>> Do you
feel a difference between the Peaceville epoch and now? As labels, did they
both always bring you full satisfaction?
A>> They did, yes. Both very true to their beliefs of what is a good release.
The epochs is different, since we in '93 were only two members left. And we're
getting old, like two sligtly chewn mushrooms, that was too sour for the chipmunk
to handle, and the damn rat spat us out, and here we are today!
Q>> Do you
have special plans for the near future or are you simply going to record albums
over and over until you die without changing your attitude (and keeping the
cult alive!)?
A>> Hey, don't tempt me. What a fantastic idea. The plans....I will not
reveal them here now.
